The 1Bataan Seal of Healthy Barangay, a pioneering community-based incentive program introduced by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) headed by Dr. Rosanna Buccahan, has secured its place among the top ten outstanding local governance programs at the prestigious 2023 Galing Pook Awards during its awarding ceremony held at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
Launched in 2019 during the term of former Governor and now Bataan 2nd District Representative Albert Garcia, the 1Bataan Seal of Healthy Barangay aspires to bring about a paradigm shift in the health-seeking behavior of Bataeños, with the end goals of enhancing their quality of life and extending life expectancy. This laudable initiative emphasizes community involvement and offers incentives to barangay officials who will implement proactive health measures.
The award was conferred to Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III and the dedicated team of PHO, with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr., SM Supermalls Vice President Engr. Liza Silerio, Galing Pook Foundation Chairperson Mel Sarmiento and Executive Director Georgina Hernandez Yang jointly presenting the award. Out of a total of 166 submissions from various local governments in the country this year, the board of judges from Galing Pook Foundation singled out the 1Bataan Seal of Healthy Barangay as an exemplar of tireless commitment to fostering innovation in local governance, ultimately strengthening the communities in Bataan.
This achievement marks the second consecutive year that the Provincial Government of Bataan has been honored with the coveted Galing Pook Award, following their recognition for Public-Private Partnership programs in the previous year. It is a testament to Bataan’s unwavering dedication to pioneering initiatives that drive positive change within the province.
